Dress Code

Parents, thank you for helping us ensure the safety of our students by making sure your child follows our school dress code policy. We created our dress code to ensure our students dress in a manner that takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health, and welfare of themselves and others.

The district administration prohibits student dress or grooming practices that:

  • Present a hazard to the health or safety of the student or to others in the school
  • Materially interfere with schoolwork, create disorder, or disrupt the educational program
  • Cause excessive wear or damage to school property
  • Prevent students from achieving their educational objectives
  • Represent membership in a gang

* Please note: We do permit exceptions for special activities or health considerations, but these must be pre-approved by the district administrator.

Our dress code policy:

  1. We require students to wear a plain, logo-free maroon or white polo shirt, a white dress shirt, or a shirt with the San Fernando logo on it.
  2. Students may only wear tailored, hemmed shorts and skirts that are no shorter than 3” above the knee in length.
  3. Students may not wear bare-midriff tops, halter-tops, or spaghetti straps.
  4. Students may wear baggy pants/jeans, but the student must have a belt at the waist. Also, the pants cannot drag on the ground.
  5. In the interest of student safety, students must wear shoes at all times. For any type of physical activity, such as physical education, students must wear closed-toe shoes. We also require students to have their shoelaces tied properly, securing the shoe to the foot. We do not allow flip-flops.
  6. Students may not wear jewelry that presents a safety hazard to the student and/or others.
  7. Boys may not wear earrings.
  8. Students may not wear profane or defamatory writing on clothing or jewelry.
  9. We do not permit gang-related personalization on hats, items of clothing, or on one’s person.
  10. We do not allow obscene language and symbols or symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol on clothing.
  11. Students may not carry or display bandannas of any color, size, or shape in any classroom or at any school activity. This also includes simulations of anything representing “colors.”
  12. Students may not wear hats in a classroom, except for properly approved occupational safety headgear required for special classes.
